She enrolled at George Brown College in 1991 to pursue a Certificate in Working with Adult Children and Codependents, and also began the full-time Human Services Counsellor Certificate Program, focusing on addictions and mental health. She went on to complete a Bachelor of Social Work at Ryerson and a Master of Social Work at the University of Toronto. She was hired as Program Manager of the Early Childhood Development Program at Hope Place Centres in February 2006. Her experience with the Beyond the Basics Parenting Group motivated Heather to adapt the curriculum to address the impact of substance abuse on parenting. Hope Place Outpatient Centre offered the 11-session parenting group three times to parents in both Mississauga and Oakville in 2006. Tisha Shea Tisha graduated from the Human Services Counsellor Diploma at George Brown College in 1985, majoring in addictions. For the next ten years, she worked as an addiction counsellor in Waterloo. Her interest in addictions, along with the impact of violence in women's lives, led her to work in the "Violence Against Women" sector for the next seventeen years. Through Women's Crisis Services of Waterloo Region, she managed Haven House, a thirty bed residential shelter for women and children fleeing intimate partner violence. Tisha recognized that many women at the shelter were impacted by addictions in their families of origin, or were struggling with addiction issues themselves. This led her to accept the Program Manager position at Hope Place Women's Treatment Centre in March 2007. |
