Hope Place Outpatient Centre

Hope Place Outpatient Centre (HOPC) is located at 77 Bronte Road, Suite 203 in Oakville, Ontario. Five outpatient programs are available at:  Baby’s Best Beginnings, BEYOND THE BASICS Parenting Group, Choices for Change, Living Sober and the Family Program. New clients can usually have an appointment within two weeks.

Baby’s Best Beginnings

Baby's Best Beginnings is a specialized Early Childhood Development (ECD) program for women with addictions who are pregnant or parenting children between the ages of 0-6 years. Services include:

  • Free and confidential addiction treatment counselling and support services offered on a weekly basis, either at the HPOC in Oakville, at home visits or in public spaces in the Halton/Peel community where the woman lives. This service is available for up to two years.

  • Help to set goals whether harm reduction  or abstinence.

  • Administering the Provincial Assessment Tools for admission to a residential treatment centre.

  • BEYOND THE BASICS Parenting Group.

  • Information sessions on substance use when pregnant or parenting.

  • Referrals to community resources.

BEYOND THE BASICS Parenting Group

Baby’s Best Beginnings is the first Early Childhood Development program in Ontario to offer the BEYOND THE BASICS Parenting Group.

In 2006, Baby’s Best Beginnings adopted the BEYOND THE BASICS Parenting Group program by adding an 11th session: “The Impact of Substance Use on Parenting”. BEYOND THE BASICS Parenting Group is an 11-session, 90-minute weekly program offered several times a year at HPOC in Oakville to moms, dads and caregivers who:

  • Are using or have used drugs and/or alcohol in the past.

  • Have a child 6 years of age or under in his or her care (or not).

  • Are involved with the Children’s Aid Society and are recommended or required to attend a parenting group.

Choices for Change

Choices for Change (CFC) is an addiction treatment program offered at HPOC in Oakville for women without children, or whose children are older than six years of age. It is a good fit for women who are looking for an alternative to residential addiction treatment. Individual, weekly addiction treatment counselling at the office, is available for up to two years. CFC is funded by the United Way of Oakville.

Family Program

Hope Place Centres' Family Program provides counselling and education services to people affected by another person's drug or alcohol addiction. The services strengthen families by building on family assets and providing links with community resources.

The Family Program provides:

  1. Individual, couple and family counselling, offering flexible hours, matching families to treatment approaches, accessing their ability to solve problems and promote healing.
     
  2. Psycho-educational groups, monthly, for family members of those who are in residential treatment at HPC's two sites (Steps to Self-Care).
     
  3. Monthly, free-of-charge public information sessions (Addictions 101) to anyone in the community who is concerned or affected by another person's substance use.

Living Sober

Living Sober is a bi-monthly group, alternate Tuesday evenings from 7-9 p.m. at HPOC in Oakville. It is a program open to women who are at varying stages in the recovery process, as well as women who are family members of those with addictions. Living Sober offers lectures, reflection and group discussion on principles for achieving a richer spiritual experience while recovering from addiction. Living Sober is funded by the United Way of Oakville.
